Drinking Water Treatment Plants at Risk In Many Areas

Irish Water is warning that as many as 250,000 Irish homes could be facing boil water notices as a result of the condition of many water treatment plants in Ireland. In the warning, Irish Water claim that half of it’s drinking water treatment plants are at risk of failure due to lack of investment and other problems dating back to previous plant management.

Stringent new quality guidelines mean water is now tested up to six times a year and Irish Water intends to shut down plants and issue boil-water notices if a problem emerges. This is unlike the system operated in the past, where boil-water notices were implemented after problems were discovered. For many homes in rural areas, a home water filter system would be a good investment in improving the quality of drinking water as well as a safeguard when boil water notices are issued. Read More…
