The drinking water situation in east Cork is “a complete and utter mess” according to residents in a report in the Evening Echo. While there is good news that a new filtration system will be installed in August at the Kilvagh Water Treatment Plant, a boil water notice is still in place for a large area around Aghada, Cloyne, Midleton and Whitegate since February this year, according to a report in the Evening Echo. Irish Water is currently undertaking civil works at the site, including the construction of new pipelines and electrical connections that are required to accommodate the new filtration units. According to Irish Water, the filtration units arrive on site this week and will be operational once the necessary civil works are completed. As soon as the filtration units are operational, Irish Water will request the lifting of the boil water notice in the affected areas.
